I read somewhere that your hearing is somewhat impaired when your mouth is open. Can't think of a better argument to have the mouth closed when one is playing listener. That's a simple statement of fact that is so obvious it shouldn't be worth mentioning.
How about this one;"the strong silent type." To me that's a pretty unappealing specimen. You do not converse with doorposts and depending on the height of the door they are tall (and strong). For the "strong silent type" ideal to be complete it has to be coupled with the facility of gab. But this does not mean merely talk for talks sake. It means the unique awareness of how much to say and when...no more, no less. But u can program a machine to do that so modicum of intelligence would come in handy in sucha a package. I have never met anyone like that and don't expect to.
We are all at one extreme or the other at any given moment. Either talking too much or not talking when we should. I have since given up the fight to fit into either. The eternal dilemma of whether to be quiet or to flap the lip. So I do both; shut up and talk. Right now is a talking phase when I shut up you'll know am being strong and silent. Might be soon or later or tomorrow but like I said, you'll know when I shut up!
Oh another thought; Can a person of slight physique pull off the "Strong silent" look? Don't think so. Small quiet people are taken as timid. Big quiet ones are taken as dumb. There's no win-win here. So am just going to keep doing me and hope it works...
